UC San Diego Wins Swim Invitational

Jenna Banafzek, Crystal Konno and Steve Denyf each won two races as UC San Diego’s swimming team finished first in its own five-team invitational meet Saturday at Canyon View Pool.
Banafzek won the 500-meter freestyle in 5 minutes 9.99 seconds, then anchored the 400 freestyle relay team, which won in 3:44.88.
Konno swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.89 and the 200 butterfly in 2:09.94.
Denyf won the 100 freestyle in 48.3, then swam anchor on the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:12.71).
Combined scores from the men’s and women’s teams were used to determine a winner. UCSD had 1,328 points (669 for the women, 659 for the men). Wyoming was second (143, 929 1/2) and Air Force third (320, 659 1/2).
