President Reagan called for speedy Senate action on the intermediate nuclear forces treaty with the Soviet Union. In his first weekly radio address of 1988, Reagan said the treaty, which he and Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev signed at their December summit, adds up to “a good deal for the United States and its allies and a step toward a more secure peace for the entire world.” The treaty bans ground-launched nuclear missiles with a range of 300 to 3,400 miles. Reagan taped his address before leaving Washington last week for a California vacation.
