An Air Force plane carrying comedian Bob Hope and his troupe around the world entertaining American armed forces was diverted Sunday to Rota naval air installation in Spain due to high winds, a tour spokesman said. Hope and his troupe were on their way to perform at Lejos Air Base in the Azores in the mid-Atlantic when winds escalated from 23 m.p.h. to 50 m.p.h. and forced the pilot to turn back more than 1,000 miles to Rota in southern Spain, said Hope spokesman Ken Kantor. Hope performed at the Rota naval air installation Sunday night instead of doing the show they had planned for the Azores.
