Teen-Age Girl Killed in Crash; Driver Arrested

A 16-year-old girl was killed early Saturday in a one-car accident in San Juan Capistrano, and her companion was arrested for leaving the scene of the accident, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
Lt. Randy Blair said Christie Lee Nelson of San Juan Capistrano was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo shortly after the 1:30 a.m. accident.
Blair said the accident occurred at Camino Capistrano and Junipero Serra.
Investigators at first thought Nelson had been alone in the car. However, it was later learned that John Harry Clements, 22, also of San Juan Capistrano, had been the driver and had run from the scene. Blair did not elaborate on where Clements was arrested.
Clements was booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter. No bail has been set.
