Whittier : Liquor Permit Denied
The Whittier City Council has denied a request to permit beer and wine sales at a Chevron gasoline station and convenience store to be built at Whittier Boulevard and Broadway Road.
The request had previously been denied by the Planning Commission. In unanimously rejecting the oil company’s appeal, council members pointed out that two stores are already selling liquor within 300 feet of the Chevron site.
Mayor Gene Chandler said he was worried that more people would drink and drive if alcohol were available at a gas station. Chevron representative Bob Robertson said he was not aware of any studies backing Chandler’s contention.
