POP/ROCK - Dec. 24, 1987
Country singer Randy Travis topped everyone Wednesday when he received four nominations for American Music Awards, the 1988 edition of which will be presented Jan. 25 in a televised ceremony from the Shrine Auditorium. Travis was followed by several artists--including vocalist Whitney Houston and glam-metal band Bon Jovi--who received three nominations each. The nominations were announced during a press conference Wednesday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. All artists were nominated based on sales charts from Cash Box, a music industry trade publication, and winners will be determined through a national sampling of 20,000 people.
