Warrants were mailed Tuesday to three former Grossmont College student body officers and a former college secretary charging misuse of $30,000 in student funds, the El Cajon police reported.

The fraud division of the San Diego County district attorney’s office prepared the letters ordering Michael Raymond Bang, Larry J. Humpal, David Michael Brooks and Peggy Ann Klecha to appear in court Jan. 8. If they fail to comply, warrants with bail set at $25,000 will be issued for their arrest, the El Cajon police said.

All four were charged with one count of grand theft, and Brooks was assigned an additional charge of perjury, said Linda Miller, district attorney spokeswoman. If convicted of grand theft, the four could face three-year state prison terms and $10,000 fines. The perjury charge could tack on another eight months to Brooks’ sentence.

The warrants come after a five-month investigation into the misappropriation of funds amounting to more than $30,000 from the Associated Students of Grossmont College.

Bang, 26, resigned as student body president in July after being elected to the office in February, 1987. He took with him ASGC’s American Express credit card, which he had previously said he was going to use to purchase a computer component, the El Cajon police said.

With this credit card, the four allegedly went on a spending spree from Anaheim to Beverly Hills. Their expenses, according to the El Cajon police investigation, included airplane tickets, rentals of two Mercedes-Benzes with cellular phones, lavish catered parties at the Beverly Hills Hotel, daily massages and hair styling by the hotel staff, and a visit to Disneyland.

Humpal, 26, was the student body vice president and Brooks, 18, was the student body secretary. Klecha, 46, who is Humpal’s mother, was employed by Grossmont College as a secretary.
