Gorbachev and the Summit
There is no question that Soviet General Secretary Mikhail S. Gorbachev made an impressive showing to both Congress and the United States public. I saw in Gorbachev what I would like to see in our President.
Ronald Reagan has much to learn from this Soviet leader regarding what it is that makes a beneficial and effective leader of a country. While Reagan seems to be continuing his campaign for the GOP and telling the American people that he is helping us to attain the American Dream, Gorbachev has showed his power both as an effective negotiator and, as one crowd member remarked when Gorbachev made his surprise “chat” on his way to see the President, a “P.R. genius.”
The Soviet leader has showed promise; now we need some from our President.
