The driver of a truck that ran a red light in Mailbu when its brakes failed and plowed into two cars, killing their drivers, has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
Jose Martin, 22, pleaded innocent to the charges Friday at his arraignment in Malibu Municipal Court, and was released on his own recognizance pending a pretrial hearing Feb. 18.
His employer, Bourget Brothers, a Santa Monica firm, pleaded innocent to an infraction involving the conditions of the vehicle’s brakes and component parts.
Martin was driving south on Kanan Dume Road on Sept. 16 when the vehicle’s brakes apparently failed and he went through a red light on Pacific Coast Highway. The truck plowed into cars driven by Christine McIntyre, 48, and Lynda Ann Parrish, 34, both of Malibu, who were killed in the crash.
