Local News in Brief : Deputies Kill Suspect
A sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man who was beating a security guard over the head with a baseball bat outside an East Los Angeles bar early Friday, authorities said.
Mark Anthony Redman, 22, of Los Angeles, was shot about 1 a.m. by a deputy who saw him attacking security guard Francisco Montoya, 24, in front of the Los Llanitos bar, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Wehner said.
Redman, mortally wounded, ran off, but deputies caught up with him a short time later and handcuffed him because they thought he might still pose a threat, Deputy Dan Cox said.
Redman was pronounced dead while still wearing the handcuffs, Cox said.
Montoya suffered minor injuries.
