‘Why Contra Aid Must End’
The Times whole argument for no more aid to the Contras is based on disrespectfully ignoring what President Reagan says repeatedly his goals for Nicaragua are in aiding the Contras.
The Reagan Administration has, time and again, emphasized that it wants democracy for Nicaraguans. That does not necessarily mean, as The Times editors constantly contend, that Reagan demands an overthrow of the Sandinistas before peace can come to Nicaragua. What it does mean is that the only acceptable peace is peace with democracy!
