Torgny Mogren of Sweden, the defending World Cup champion, won a spectacular three-way sprint in a 30-kilometer men’s cross country ski race at Castelrotto, Italy, his second straight World Cup victory.
However, the 24-year-old Swede was unhappy about the new formula that calls for the simultaneous start of all skiers. It was used for the first time in a World Cup race.
“It produced a thrilling finish for the fans but was not good to us, at all,” he said. “In the most difficult parts of the course the fight was very tough and we often risked spills.”
