Veteran Movie Actor Nolan Leary, 98, Dies

Nolan Leary, a character actor in silent and talking films, died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 98.
Leary began his career entertaining U.S. troops stationed in France during World War I and went on to play vaudeville.
His first silent films were Westerns, then filmed on Staten Island, N.Y. They included “Arizona Desert” and “Sharkey’s Last Game.”
In later years, he had parts in such films as “Make Way for Tomorrow,” “Ten North Frederick,” “Pollyanna,” “High Noon” and “Sweet Charity.”
He is survived by his wife, Helen, and a niece, Phyllis Overton.
