Miller Still Swings

Regarding A.S. Doc Young’s response to Jack Hawn’s article on Les Brown (“At 75, He’s Still Striking Up That Band of Renown,” Nov. 13): Yes, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is indeed still being led by someone--tenor saxophonist Dick Gerhart.
A veteran of 17 years with the group, he follows in the footsteps of previous Miller musical directors Hal McIntire and Buddy Morrow, among others. Morrow, incidentally, now leads the Tommy Dorsey band.
As the featured vocalist with the orchestra, I can tell you the group plays about 250 dates each year throughout the world, usually to packed houses.
Thought you’d all like to know the orchestra is still alive and flourishing.
