Mendocino County Rain Cuts U.S. 101
Associated Press
EUREKA, Calif. — Part of U.S. 101 in Mendocino County will remain closed until Saturday evening as crews try to build a detour around a 75-foot section of roadway that sank half a foot after heavy rains.
The highway two miles north of the Mendocino-Sonoma County line was closed at noon Thursday after state Department of Transportation engineers decided the road was unsafe, a Caltrans spokesman in Eureka said.
The problem began Wednesday afternoon when a culvert under the road began to sink after a rainstorm, Caltrans spokesman Bob Trice said.
