Local News in Brief : 3 Parks to Close Earlier
- Share via
Three parks in West Hollywood will be closed three hours earlier beginning in January because of a recent increase in violent crimes.
West Hollywood, Plummer and William S. Hart parks will be closed from midnight to 6 a.m. because current closing hours of 3 to 5 a.m. have contributed to a rash of assaults, robberies, auto burglaries and other incidents in the parks, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Squires said.
While West Hollywood’s crime rate has decreased 34% since the city was founded three years ago, “our parks are becoming a little bit of a focal point for crime,” Squires said.
Deputies closing the parks have been assaulted several times by visitors who are asleep or drunk by 3 a.m., he said.
