Last Gimbels Store to Close

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — The last Gimbels store will close by the end of January because it has lost its lease at a suburban Pittsburgh shopping mall, officials said today.
The closing of the two-story store at the Century III Mall will mean the loss of about 125 jobs, officials said. The store was the last of a 36-store chain in the Northeast and Midwest that was anchored by the giant Gimbels department store at Herald Square in New York City. The stores were sold separately after their parent company, BATUS Inc., announced a corporate restructuring in 1986.
