Prosecutors in Upper Marlboro, Md., dismissed murder charges against Derrick Fenner, former North Carolina football star, in a drug-related shooting, but said they will go ahead with a separate drug and weapons case against him.
Fenner was arrested in June in connection with the fatal shooting of Marcellus Leach, 19, in what police called a turf war between rival drug factions.
Officials said investigators “uncovered substantial evidence to indicate Mr. Fenner was not present on May 23, 1987, at the location of the murder . . . “
