Local News in Brief : Westminster : 3 Seriously Hurt After Car Skids Into Tree

Three people were seriously injured when their car skidded out of control and crashed into a tree at Beach Boulevard and the Garden Grove Freeway, authorities said Monday.

Rescue workers from Westminster and nearby Stanton worked for four hours to free Kristine L. Rodgers, 19, of Long Beach and her passengers, using the “jaws of life” to cut open her crushed 1983 Ford Mustang, Westminster Police Department spokesman Larry Woessner said.

Rodgers suffered internal injuries and was listed in critical condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Woessner said.

Her passengers, both from Long Beach, were airlifted to UCI Medical Center, where they remained in critical condition Monday, police said.

Scott Davis, 20, was treated for severe head injuries and a fractured pelvis, and Danielle Lebonte, 21, was treated for two broken legs and internal bleeding, Woessner said.

The accident occurred at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, just after Rodgers exited the Garden Grove Freeway onto southbound Beach Boulevard, police said.

Woessner said that alcohol was found in Rodgers’ car and that police suspect it might have contributed to the crash.

Police are awaiting the results of Rodgers’ blood tests. No charges have yet been filed pending further investigation, Woessner said.
