Fire destroyed the newly remodeled Food Fair building in Temple City early Saturday, causing an estimated $2.8 million in damage, authorities said.
About 45 firefighters battled the flames in the market at Las Tunas Drive and Temple City Boulevard, Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Chuck Gutierrez said.
The blaze broke out shortly after 3 a.m. and was burning through the attic and roof shortly after firefighters arrived.
No injuries were reported. However, several firefighters narrowly escaped injury when the front of the building collapsed, Gutierrez said.
Damage to the building was estimated at $1.5 million and damage to the contents was set at $1.3 million.
Cause of the fire was under investigation.
