Lola Montes Troupe Gets $15,000 Help for Expenses

The California Arts Council has voted to earmark an extra $15,000 for Lola Montes and Her Spanish Dancers troupe to help cover touring engagement expenses.
In August, the council allotted $5,000 to the local troupe along with a place on the council’s Touring Artists Directory for 1987/88, a roster of dance, music and theater troupes eligible for state funds to partially cover touring costs.
However, several figures in the arts community objected to the lesser amount for the troupe--most directory groups received $20,000--and at a regular council meeting here last week, Gerald Yoshitomi, director of the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, recommended the additional funds be awarded.
