The state Supreme Court refused to reinstate a veteran California Highway Patrol sergeant, who was fired for being nude at home in view of neighbors in rural San Luis Obispo County. None of the justices voted to grant a hearing to Ronald Anderson, whose 22-year career ended in 1983, when he was fired from the CHP’s San Luis Obispo office. According to court records, one of Anderson’s neighbors in Santa Margarita first complained in the summer of 1980 that she looked across a five-foot chain-link fence and saw him standing naked in front of a window. Similar complaints from others followed. The CHP also said Anderson had been investigated for alleged off-duty indecent exposure in 1976. No misconduct was found, but he was told to be more discreet in the future.
