- The California Arts Council’s roving Artists in Residence workshop touches down for two briefings Dec. 9 and 11 in San Diego County. The residency program places poets, painters, dancers, photographers and other artists into sponsoring schools, hospitals and social and community institutions.
The Arts Council staff will discuss suitable activities and the application process from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in City Council Chambers, 1200 Elm Ave., Carlsbad, and from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 11 in Room 102 in Casa del Prado, Balboa Park.
The Arts Council also is encouraging the traditional practice of folk arts through apprenticeship under a new grant program. Known as the Master-Apprentice Grants, the project underwrites selected master-apprentice partnerships by paying for the master artist’s supplies and fees and the apprentice’s travel costs.
Application deadline is Jan. 15, 1988. Application forms may be ordered from the California Arts Council in Sacramento. (The Arts Council defines folk arts as “a community-based expression in craft, music, dance, ritual, etc., which is shared within ethnic, family, occupational, regional or religious groups.”)
