Services for Former Boxing Champion Gil Cadilli Will Be Held Wednesday

Services for former boxer Gil Cadilli are scheduled at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the New Jerusalem Church, 4408 E. Dozier St., in East Los Angeles. Burial will follow at Rose Hills Cemetery, 3900 S. Workman Mill Road, in Whittier.
Cadilli, 56, died of stomach cancer Friday at his East Los Angeles home. Keeny Teran, his closest friend and one-time rival, was with him when he died.
“I held his hand,” Teran said. “When the pain got bad he would squeeze my hand.”
Cadilli and Teran were two of the most popular local fighters who boxed at the Olympic Auditorium and Hollywood Legion Stadium in the 1950s and early ‘60s.
Cadilli, with a career record of 33-20-6, was once California state featherweight champion. He split a pair of non-title decisions with world champion Willie Pep in 1955 and lost three non-title bouts to champion Davey Moore in the ‘60s.
