Local News in Brief : Huntington Beach : Volunteers Sought for Food Collection
- Share via
Operation Merry Christmas, a volunteer food drive to make the holidays better for hundreds of needy families, is under way. But the group needs volunteers.
Organized by the Junior Women’s Club in Huntington Beach, the program calls for collecting non-perishable foods, particularly canned vegetables, fruit, pie fillings, cranberry sauce, tuna and meats, rice, peanut butter, boxed cake mixes, instant puddings and potatoes.
Last year, the drive provided more than 400 families with food for Christmas dinner and added such treats as toys, games, hair ribbons, toiletries, pens and brushes.
Donations can be made to Operation Merry Christmas from Dec. 14 to 20 at its headquarters in the Five Points Shopping Center, 18589 Main St., Huntington Beach.
Volunteers are invited to help fill and deliver “holiday baskets” on Dec. 21 and 22, and large vehicles will be needed.
