The Surf’s Still Up
Allan Parachini’s article “What’s Up Doc?” (Nov. 15) really astounded me. The idea of a major paper with a circulation of more than 1 million devoting more than four pages to surfing doctors is preposterous!
I found it neither interesting nor educational to learn of physicians’ philosophies about the interrelationship of surfing, sex and medical care. Next time I am in a doctor’s office, I might feel a little guilt-ridden that I am preventing him from riding the swells.
I thought that the television studios had a monopoly on the glorification of young, arrogant and immature physicians. Now they have competition from The Times. Let’s keep this kind of fluff in surf magazines and daytime soaps where it belongs.
