State banking regulators in Oklahoma closed Republic Bank of Oklahoma City, while a total of three banks were closed by state banking regulators in Louisiana and Kansas, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. announced. FDIC said Peoples Bank & Trust of Iberia Parish, New Iberia, La., was also closed. In Kansas, state banking officials closed Timken State Bank in Timken and Alexander State Bank in Alexander. The closures bring the number of U.S. bank failures for 1987 to 164, compared to last year’s total of 138, FDIC said.
