GM to Lay Off 1,155 at 3 Plants

DETROIT — General Motors Corp. said today that production cutbacks in January will result in a total of 1,155 layoffs at three of its U.S. passenger-car assembly plants.
It said about 850 employees will be placed on indefinite layoff at its Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac assembly plant in Lansing, Mich. About 225 workers will be laid off at the Chevrolet-Pontiac assembly plant in Bowling Green, Ky., and 80 workers will be idled at a plant in Pontiac, Mich., GM said.
