VOLUNTEER PLACEMENT SERVICES FOR SENIORS
Senior citizens 60 and over, representing the nationwide Retired Senior Volunteer Program, accounted for 67 million hours of volunteer time at nonprofit agencies, while the Foster Grandparents Program served 66,500 children nationally in 1985.
According to American Demographics Magazine, 43% of older adults between 65 to 74 years old and 25% over 75 years old have volunteered and will continue giving their time. In 1986, Orange County RSVP volunteers served 250 nonprofit agencies by putting in 270,000 hours of service last year.

Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Except Wednesdays -- 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The nonprofit program recruits and places older adults as “Senior Aides” in volunteer positions in 170 nonprofit agencies. The center is also responsible for Cal-Trans, a countywide court referral alternative sentencing program for traffic violators.

Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. SCORE, a national, nonprofit organization, is staffed by 50 Orange County retired business executives. The program sponsored by the Small Business Administration, provides counseling services and technical assistance to established and newly created small businesses. Workshops are held every Tuesday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monthly seminars are held on the fourth Thursday from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Topics range from “How-to-Start a Business,” “Securing A Loan,” “Getting Your License,” to “Management Strategies for Successful Businesses.”

Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to Noon Seniors 60 years old and over, serve as companions to developmentally disabled children and adults. Volunteers are required to work a total of five four-hour days per week and receive $2.20 per hour stipend, $2 per day for transportation, a hot meal and uniforms. Hispanic and bilingual persons are needed as volunteers.
