CS Long Beach Women Defeat Soviets, 89-88

Shannon Smith scored 26 points and had 13 rebounds to lead Cal State Long Beach women’s basketball team to an 89-88 victory over the Soviet National Team Monday night at Long Beach.

Trailing by one point with 18 seconds left, freshman Dana Wilkerson took a pass from Penny Toler and drove in for a layup to give the 49ers the win and hand the Soviet Union its first loss in seven games on its United States tour.
