United Education & Software’s earnings more than doubled in its fiscal third quarter, as did revenue.
The Encino-based operator of trade schools said net income for the quarter ended Oct. 31 climbed to $1.7 million, or 47 cents a share, from $665,000, or 22 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue jumped to $21.8 million, from $8.3 million.
United Education’s net income also doubled in the first nine months of 1987, to $2.9 million, or 83 cents a share, from $1.3 million, or 42 cents a share, a year earlier. Nine-month revenue soared to $55 million from $23.6 million.
The company’s profitability has improved markedly since 1985, when United Education scaled down its money-losing computer equipment business and began acquiring more technical schools.
