Golden West Upsets Long Beach, 8-6, for Water Polo Title

Golden West College upset Long Beach, 8-6, in the community college regional water polo championship Saturday night at Long Beach’s Belmont Plaza Pool.
Long Beach (23-2), the defending state champion, had defeated Golden West (21-5) in four of their last five meetings.
Scott Larsen had five goals, including one 11 seconds into the match, to pace Golden West. Craig Douglas’ goal in the fourth quarter was the game-winner, and Jeff Wines and Andy Tarazette each added a goal. Rustler goalkeeper Tim Bogdonovich had 10 saves.
Brian Boyer led Long Beach with four goals.
Both teams have qualified for the state tournament, which will be held next weekend at Belmont Plaza.
