Golf Roundup : Bean Breezes to 3-Shot Win
Andy Bean shot a front-running five-under-par 67 Saturday to successfully defend his title in the $600,000 Kapalua International golf tournament at Kapalua, Hawaii.
Bean, injured and deeply frustrated most of the year, finished with a score of 21-under-par 267 while beating Lanny Wadkins by three shots to earn $150,000. Wadkins came on with a late rush to match Bean’s 67 and move past Sandy Lyle into second place. Lyle was third at 272 after a 71.
Dave Hill shot a six-under-par 66 and took a two-shot lead in the $200,000 Suntree senior tournament at Melbourne, Fla. Hill’s 36-hole total of 134 is two shots better than Bobby Nichols (69).
Cincy Rarick shot a six-under-par 66 to overhaul Val Skinner and win the $100,000 Women’s Pro Am tournament by three strokes with a total score of 203 at Lihue, Hawaii. Rarick earned $30,000 with the win.
