Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a storage shed and part of one classroom Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Rolling Hills Estates.
The blaze started at 1 p.m. near electrical panels in a wooden shed that was used to store newspapers and aluminum cans for recycling. Flames spread to the roof of an adjoining classroom before being brought under control by four engine companies from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, according to Capt. Ron Lannan.
No one was on the property when the fire broke out. Lannan estimated damage at $10,000. He said neighbors Kent Haley and John Tully were the first to arrive at the church and helped fight the fire with garden hoses.
