SHAGGY DOG STORIES: We were shocked when we heard the news--Heart thrown out of a hotel? Was the band throwing TV sets into the swimming pools? Did Nancy Wilson host an indoor barbecue? We thought rock stars were neat as a pin these days. As it turns out, it was all Ann Wilson’s fault. The band’s vocalist had brought Boppy, her 6-month-old Wheaton terrier, out on tour with her. (Though that’s not why the group’s U.S. concert swing is called the “Bad Animals” tour.)
Unfortunately, Boppy’s presence didn’t set too well with the management at the Marriott Hotel in Charlotte, N.C. The band claims security personnel threatened to arrest them if the dog wasn’t removed from the premises--the hotel apparently doesn’t allow animals to stay in the guest rooms. Eventually Boppy left, as did the entire band and road crew, leaving the hotel with 35 new empty rooms (no wonder concert tickets cost so much these days).
