Parity Cited as Reason for Rose Bowl’s Lean Years
I happen to agree with Mike Downey that the Rose Bowl game is not what it used to be. I am a graduate of Indiana University and I still agree. Big Ten football is not what it was 20 years ago. Plain and simple. But . . .
I just spent half of the current football season outside of Southern California and I have to report, painful as it may be, that the outcome of Pac-10 games doesn’t exactly keep sports fans glued to their television sets, either. I feel terrible being the bearer of bad news, Los Angeles, but the Pac-10 has also managed to lose its dominance in football and basketball during those same 20 years.
At least I have basketball season to look forward to.
