Kim Nominated for President

SEOUL, South Korea — Opposition leader Kim Dae Jung was nominated today by his new party to run for president. He vowed to ban South Korea’s powerful armed forces from politics and to ensure full democracy.
After the nomination, which was expected, Kim told more than 3,000 delegates of his Party for Peace and Democracy that he was the only presidential candidate who did not seek a compromise with the military.
