Elementary pupils will be taught how to write stories for print and broadcast in a journalism education program scheduled to operate in Orange County public schools this winter.
Schools in 18 Orange County districts have been invited to select two outstanding pupils to participate in the cub reporter program run by Bear Essential News for Kids Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Arizona.
The children will attend a two-hour orientation Nov. 21. Afterward, they will spend some of their free time during the school term reporting and writing stories to be published in the group’s newspaper or broadcast on KDOC-TV and KYMS-FM, said Lisa Hitchcock, a spokeswoman for the program.
Hitchcock said the program is intended for children 8-11 years old.
