Dominica Scraps Project That Threatened Winery
CASTRIES, St. Lucia — The Dominica government has scrapped plans to build a carton-manuafacturing plant that would have endangered St. Lucia’s Winera box factory, Prime Minister John Compton said.
“We have since had a written assurance from the Dominica government that they are not proceeding with the operation,” Compton said at a news conference.
The plant would have harmed the operations of the Winera plant, which supplies cardboard boxes for banana producers in St. Lucia, Dominica and Grenada.
Winera is jointly owned by Venezuela and the Windward Islands nations.
