ABT Plans 9 Ballets at Costa Mesa Center

Mikhail Baryshnikov’s American Ballet Theatre will offer nine works by six choreographers during a Dec. 1-13 engagement at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.
Works scheduled will include a first performance of Clark Tippet’s “Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1,” set to the Bruch’s familiar concerto in G minor, and a revival of Antony Tudor’s “Gala Performance,” created in 1938 to music by Prokofiev.
Dates and repertory will be:
- Dec. 1, 8 p.m.: “Raymonda,” Acts II & III (Baryshnikov/Glazanov); “Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1” (Tippet/Bruch), first performance; “Symphonie Concertante” (Balanchine/Mozart).
- Dec. 2, 8 p.m.: “Pillar of Fire” (Tudor/Schoenberg); “Etudes” (Lander/Riisager).
- Dec. 3, 8 p.m.: “Donizetti Variations” (Balanchine/Donizetti); “Pillar of Fire”; “Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1.”
- Dec. 4-10 (except for Dec. 7), 8 p.m.: “Sleeping Beauty” (MacMillan/Tchaikovsky). Also, Dec. 5 & 6, 2 p.m.
- Dec. 11, 8 p.m.: “Donizetti Variations”; “Gala Performance” (Tudor/Prokofiev), revival; “Etudes.”
- Dec. 12, 2 p.m.: “Donizetti Variations”; “Leaves are Fading” (Tudor/Dvorak); “Etudes.”
- Dec. 12, 8 p.m.: “Donizetti Variations”; “Gala Performance”; “Raymonda,” Acts II & III.
- Dec. 13, 8 p.m.: “Raymonda,” Acts II & III; “Leaves Are Fading”; “Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1.”
