11 Killed, 11 Hurt in Armed Attack on Colombian Bus

BOGOTA, Colombia — Eleven people were killed and 11 others injured in an attack on Thursday of a bus traveling through an emerald-mining region 60 miles north of the capital, police said.
The mayor of the nearest town, Aranche, said dozens of people dressed in army and police uniforms opened fire on the bus and threw grenades with some passengers still on board.
Among the dead was a 12-year-old girl, police said.
Mayor Gabriel Parra Benitez, who imposed a curfew on the town, attributed the attack to ordinary law delinquents rather than guerrillas and said it probably resulted from warfare between gangs of emerald traffickers.
