Juma Ikangaa of Tanzania broke away in the last two miles to win the Beijing International Marathon, ending three years of Japanese dominance.
Ikangaa was timed in 2 hours 12 minutes 19 seconds over the windy and dusty course through the center of the Chinese capital.
Negasi Dube of Ethiopia finished second in 2:12:49, and Brad Camp of Australia was third in 2:12:52. They were followed by Japan’s Hiroshi Noda in 2:12:53 and Hideki Kita, winner of the 1984 Beijing marathon, in 2:13:90. A total of 329 runners, including 37 foreigners, took part.
