Corning Glass Works’ income rose 2% to $50.3 million for the third quarter, compared to the year-ago period. Third-quarter sales rose 7% to $610 million, the Corning, N.Y., company said. Among the company’s strongest units were laboratory-testing services at MetPath Inc. and Hazleton Laboratories Corp. and consumer housewares businesses. Income from equity companies rose sharply, up 17% from last year’s third quarter. The strong performers continued to be Dow Corning Corp., Samsung-Corning Co. Ltd. and optical-fiber joint ventures overseas.
