Two people died early Tuesday in a head-on collision on California 125 involving a suspected drunk driver, authorities said.
About 1:40 a.m., a car headed south on California 125 north of Lemon Avenue at high speed crossed through the divider strip and hit a northbound vehicle head-on, California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Debbie Russell said.
A passenger in the southbound car, Jacquelyn W. Andrews, 26, of Spring Valley, and the driver of the northbound car, Adain Sandoval, 36, of El Cajon, were pronounced dead at the scene, a coroner’s deputy said. There were no passengers in Sandoval’s car.
The driver of the southbound car, Valerie Messier, 30, of Escondido, was in critical condition at Sharp Memorial Hospital. Messier is suspected of being drunk at the time of the accident.
