When Rossini’s opera “La Cenerentola” plays before students and senior citizens next month--courtesy of Music Center Opera and the Music Center Education Division--it will be as “Cinderella” and sung in English.
The outreach tour will begin Oct. 19 with 10 performances in Shrine Auditorium. It will continue with four performances at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, starting Nov. 3, and end with three performances at Pasadena Civic Auditorium, opening Nov. 10.
Robert Duerr, MCO associate conductor and former director of the Pasadena Chamber Orchestra, will conduct the new production, which was given its premiere Sept. 18 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Chad O’Connor will take over from stage director Frank Corsaro.
Alice Baker and Stephanie Vlahos will alternate in the title role, with Jorge Lopez-Yanez and Greg Fedderly sharing duties as Ramiro. Other cast members include Jeralyn Refeld, Michele Henderson, Michael Gallup, John Atkins and Peter Atherton.
The performances--scheduled for morning and afternoon hours--are not open to the general public. Elementary school groups and senior citizen organizations should call the Music Center Education Division for further information and tickets, at (714) 595-6848.
