Vietnam’s ruling Communist Party Politburo has ordered a renewed purge of the corrupt and idle from its ranks. The campaign to get rid of “degenerate and deviant elements” was announced in a Politburo resolution. It follows official admission of the failure of attempts to reform the impoverished state’s economy and repeated party criticism of members of the Communist administration for incompetence and abuse of their positions.
