Local News in Brief : Hiker Hurt in 100-Foot Fall in Tujunga Canyon
- Share via
A 21-year-old hiker suffered a concussion Sunday when he fell about 100 feet down a steep mountainside while climbing in the Tujunga Canyon area of Sunland.
Donald Perkins was in stable condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he was taken by helicopter, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Perkins was hiking with a friend in the rugged terrain about 11:30 a.m. when he lost his footing, hit the ground and rolled into a bush, said Los Angeles Fire Capt. Brian Rubino. The friend found Perkins unconscious, ran down the hill and drove his motorcycle to a fire station for help, Rubino said.
About 30 firefighters assisted in rescuing Perkins, Rubino said.
The friend, who was not identified, was uninjured.
