Cyanide Spill Evacuates 4 Chatsworth Firms

Four small manufacturing companies in Chatsworth were evacuated for eight hours Friday morning after 250 gallons of cyanide spilled at one of them, a jewelry-making concern.
The cyanide, discovered when employees reported for work in the morning, seeped under doorways into three adjacent companies in the same building at 21110 Nordhoff St., said Jim Williamson, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
No one was injured by fumes from the cyanide, which was removed by authorities, Williamson said.
