WASHINGTON — About 650 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division will go to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula late next month to replace another battalion that has been on peacekeeping duty between Egyptian and Israeli lines since May, the Pentagon announced Thursday.
The soldiers are members of the Multinational Force and Observers, established to oversee the provisions of the 1979 Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty.
The unit that is scheduled to depart in late October is the 2nd Battalion, 325th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division based at Ft. Bragg, N.C., the Pentagon said. It will replace a battalion from the 7th Infantry Division (Light).
