FALL HIGHLIGHTS : Devine, Scobie Lead Saugus to Team Titles

Joe Devine and Heather Scobie led Saugus High to a sweep of the team titles at the San Marino cross-country invitational at Lacy Park on Wednesday.
Devine won the boys race in 15 minutes, 27 seconds. Teammate Tom Greenwood (16:07) placed second as the Centurions scored 31 points. San Marino (60), Alhambra (64) and San Gabriel (99) placed second, third and fourth, respectively.
Scobie (18:33) led a 1-2-3 Saugus finish in the girls race. Amy Reiter (20:01) and Marnie Bond (20:14) placed second and third.
BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY
Salesian 29, Chaminade 29--Salesian (2-0) won on a tiebreaker, despite the effort of Ken Ricci (16:15) who finished first for Chaminade (1-1).
Alemany 23, Notre Dame 34--Notre Dame’s Mike Glaze (15:31) finished first in a Del Rey League loss at Woodley Park in Encino.
Crespi 22, St. John Bosco 33--Crespi’s Sean Huckaby (17:47) placed second in the Del Rey League meet.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Thousand Oaks def. Royal, 11-15, 15-10, 15-10, 15-13--Thousand Oaks (2-0, 5-0), the defending Southern Section 2-A champion, was led by Julie Chellevold, who had 17 kills, in a Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks.
Alemany def. Boron, 15-7, 15-4--Stacy Baldwin had seven kills for Alemany (1-2) in the first round of the Palmdale tournament.
Newbury Park def. Camarillo, 15-5, 15-10, 8-15, 15-8--Camille Mitchell had 19 kills as Newbury Park (2-0, 6-0) won the Marmonte League match.
Marymount def. Burroughs, 17-15, 15-3, 14-16, 15-12--Debbie Penney had 18 kills for Burroughs (4-1) in a nonleague loss at Burroughs.
Chaminade def. Westlake (L. A.), 15-12, 15-10, 15-17, 15-5--Kim Kisylia had 14 kills for Chaminade (2-1) in a nonleague match at Westlake.
WATER POLO
Harvard 6, Millikan 5--Justin Cheen scored in overtime to give Harvard a first-round victory in the Millikan tournament at Long Beach Poly.
Burroughs 13, Salesian 3--Jeff Paggi scored six goals for Burroughs (3-2) in a nonleague contest at Burroughs.
Calabasas 9, Crespi 3--Calabasas (3-3) handed Crespi (0-4) its fourth consecutive defeat in a nonleague match at Calabasas.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Master’s def. Southern California College, 15-3, 10-15, 15-3, 13-15, 15-6--Michelle Carter had 14 kills for Master’s (3-0, 4-0) at Master’s College.
